Daily Reflection for Tuesday, July 26, 2022

Peace and Blessings, Friends and Parishioners!

We encourage you to reflect on Tuesday’s readings at this link:
https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/072622.cfm

If you prefer to use your own Bible, the readings are:
First Reading: Jeremiah 14:1 7-22
Responsorial: Psalm 79:8-9, 11 and 13
Gospel: Matthew 13:36-42

Our reflection on Tuesday’s readings:
Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.     Matthew 13:36

Today’s readings are the second time in a week that seeds and weeds have been discussed and explained by Jesus to the disciples.  The first time was when Jesus explained how seeds germinate and grow depending on where they are sowed.  Today he explains what weeds are. They are the children of the Evil One.  He does not explain how the bad seeds – the weeds - got planted.

I believe that farmers in the time of Jesus tried to get the most perfect seeds that they could find to plant.  They did not have the technology of today to identify and sort seeds before bagging for sale.  Even with today’s technology and processes, it is next to impossible to get a bag of 100% pure fescue or bluegrass to sow.  So, some unwanted things will appear.  And we seldom sterilize the soil to ensure no unwanted things are waiting in the ground.

When I try to preach or to share the love of God, it is extremely difficult for me to be sure that my thoughts and motives are going to be what God wants them to be.  Sometimes I have to go back and do things again.   But I must try because God has asked me to share with others.  I pray for God to fill me with His words and to guide my footsteps as I try to follow His path and do as He has asked me to do.

Will weeds pop up?  Most likely, yes.  All I can do is to try my best with His aid to minimize the weeds that I leave in my wake as I continue the journey.

Peace,
Al Ammons

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
