Gospel: Mark 6:14-29
Our reflection on Friday’s readings:
Today, our reading finds us focusing on Jesus Christ, our very secure anchor:
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8
After reading and re-reading today’s scriptures, we chose to reflect on the last verse in today’s first reading from the Letter to the Hebrews. Since we live in a world and nation of upheaval, change, and unexpected events, this one verse lends stability, consistency, and a constant for all. This one verse gives us hope so we can have joy; this one verse gives us faith so we can grow in Christ Jesus; this one verse gives us confidence in our lives if we would just believe and focus.
As we read the Bible and reflect, we can clearly see how Jesus is unchangeable. We like change; we enjoy being trendy such as buying the latest cellphone and even buying the newest and stylish masks to be fashionable in this pandemic. We want to remain current by keeping up with the latest in fashion, electronics, and just new ways of doing things. These changes affect us but will soon pass away and be called “old school.” The word of Jesus Christ is so cutting-edge that it is always current, immutable, inflexible, ageless, and never last season. This anchor brings comfort in knowing that we can always count on Christ’s unwavering love and faithfulness.
A very close and dear friend from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, who carefully studies the Bible and teaches Bible classes in her church stated . . . “Our ancestors had this same Jesus in their hearts, our family members presently living with us have the same Jesus in their hearts, and in the future, our children’s children will know and have the same Jesus in their hearts because Jesus never, never, never changes.”
May we share these chorus lyrics of Always the Same:
Always the same oh praise His name
Jesus never changes He's always the same
Always together His love is forever
Jesus never changes He's always the same

Our Prayer: Dear Lord, we thank You for constancy and consistency of your word, promises, and love. We appreciate that You are the same always and forever.
