Our reflection on Tuesday’s readings:
... I know him... 1 John 2:4
One of my favorite Christmas movies to watch this time of year is Elf starring Will Ferrell. Have you seen it? There is one scene in which Buddy the Elf, played by Will Ferrell, learns that Santa Claus will be arriving the next day. Buddy gets really excited and starts screaming, “SANTA! ... Here?... I know him.” It’s a hilarious scene because Buddy is so over-the-top-excited and full of joy knowing that he gets to see Santa. In case you haven’t seen the movie, here is a clip from that scene. “ ....my own eyes have seen the salvation which you prepared in the sight of every people ...” Luke 2:30-31
I have seen God. I know God! Not fully, mind you, but everyday I experience glimpses of the salvation of God in many ways. I get to know God through my family and friends who so often teach me to be a better me. I get to know God through all of my students who have come through my classroom over the years. I get to know God by reading and listening to the stories of our frontline workers fighting through this challenging pandemic. Thank you! I get to know God by witnessing those who sacrifice their time for those in need at places like food pantries, Christmas Stores, and homeless shelters.
During this Christmas Season, pray with me that we all can experience the excitement and joy of knowing God.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Tim Bush
