Parish Council Meeting

November 17, 2021

Members Present:  Fr. John McCaslin, Greg Daniels (President), Anne Wilson, Katie Colden, Salvador Isol, Marco Payamps, and Chuck Meer, Myrna Tiaxcala     

The meeting was opened with a prayer by Fr. John.

Motion made by to record the minutes of the October meeting as written.  All accepted.  Fr. John asked that minutes be sent to Barb Bacon and Linda Pitcher.

Old Business:

• Festival 2022 updates by Chuck and Katie. Rachel Lamb is the chair. Cara will be taking minutes of the meeting.  Katie gave an update on trying to get rides.  She has heard back from one ride company so far.  Chuck emphasized that we need volunteers to help out

New Business:

• Thanksgiving mass
• Advent starts November 30
• Very full December as discussed in the October minutes
• Every Friday morning the school will do adoration and confession (One class will stay behind after mass for adoration and confession)
• MaryJo and Eric will work with the pastor to establish a monthly meeting for parents, January-April. One Sunday a month, parents of children in Parish Faith Formation and the parents of children in school will need to attend this faith formation meeting which will be followed by mass and a meal
• 2024 there will be a Eucharist Congress in Indy.
• The finance committee approved the Stewardship committees request for the Teir-one stewardship program through Catholic Stewardship Company. This is a substantial investment by the parish. Monthly newsletters will be done. The committee will be now called The Stewardship and Communication Committee. We will have a small column in the newsletter about funerals etc.  The parish is looking at updating technology to do things like QR codes to make donations, etc. How do we things to enhance our parishioners experience with the church?
• How do we build the structures of the ministries into commissions? After that is decided, we will plan to a meeting every 2 months to bring these commissions together. Greg asked if it would be the five commissions that were developed several years ago.  The commissions listed there were:  Worship/Prayer, Stewardship and Engagement, Catholic Education (Faith Formation,) Youth and Family Life and Social Justice and Evangelization as outline in the St. Monica Ministy Teams and Staff Support. We will work on this at the January 19^th meeting to possibly have a Day of Prayer for ministries in March.
• Passed out information about ministries and the possible ministry commissions and a brief conversation ensued. We would ask ministries for a personal goal and then have the commissions do the same thing.
• It was decided that we need to update the list of ministries and arrange them per the staff available. Father John suggested that we spend a meeting with a white board and have a focused session on how to divide up these groups into commissions.  Every group should be a spiritual and praying ministry.
• Music Ministry: Two new choral groups have started in Spanish and two new cantors have started in English. We have someone who has stepped in for music for Christmas. We are still looking for a music minster.
• The Music minister and Pastoral Associate (part time) are priorities for the parish in that order.
• We are still waiting to hear about the audio and the projection from the Diocese.
• We will no longer be the charter for Boy Scouts, but they will still be here under their own charter.
• Father John suggested that the December 15th meeting be a bilingual Posada. It is the first one of the season at the gym. The parish council will take an integral part.
• suggested hosting a tamale making party on December 4 during the day. We can make them for Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12 and people can take some home with them too. Fr. John will work on this project this week.  This will be done in the kitchen.
• The Spanish Married Couples Retreat went well to bring couples together after Covid. We also had weekend for those planning to get married (Spanish)
• It was suggested at the liturgical meeting to convert the 6:00 pm mass to a bi-lingual mass. We could also make this a youth mass with music, etc.  Father John asked for our opinion.  All thought it was a good idea. Ideas to incorporate our youth were discussed.  John brought up tailgating at local high school (North Central, Pike, Ritter and Brebeuf,) during football season.  A movie or game night might be good ideas too.

La reunión se abrió con una oración del P. Juan.

Moción presentada por para dejar constancia del acta de la reunión de octobre  tal como está redactada. Todos aceptados.  El P. John pidió que se enviaran minutos a Barb Bacon y Linda Pitcher.

Antiguo negocio:

• Actualizaciones del Festival 2022 por Chuck y Katie. Rachel Lamb es la presidenta. Cara tomará actas de la reunión.  Katie dio una actualización sobre cómo tratar de conseguir viajes.  Ella ha recibido respuesta de una compañía de viajes hasta ahora.  Chuck enfatizó que necesitamos voluntarios para ayudar

Nuevos Negocios:

• Misa de Acción de Gracias
• El Adviento comienza el 30 de noviembre
• Diciembre muy completo como se discutió en el acta de octubre
• Todos los viernes por la mañana la escuela hará adoración y confesión (una clase se quedará atrás después de la misa para la adoración y la confesión)
• MaryJo y Eric trabajarán con el pastor para establecer una reunión mensual para los padres, de enero a abril. Un domingo al mes, los padres de los niños en la formación de fe de la parroquia y los padres de los niños en la escuela deberán asistir a esta reunión de formación en la fe que será seguida por una misa y una comida.
• 2024 habrá un Congreso Eucarístico en Indy.
• El comité de finanzas aprobó la solicitud de los comités de mayordomía para el programa de mayordomía Teir-one a través de Catholic Stewardship Company. Esta es una inversión sustancial por parte de la parroquia. Se realizarán boletines mensuales. El comité ahora se llamará Comité de Administración y Comunicación. Tendremos una pequeña columna en el boletín sobre funerales, etc.  La parroquia está buscando actualizar la tecnología para hacer cosas como códigos QR para hacer donaciones, etc. ¿Cómo hacemos las cosas para mejorar la experiencia de nuestros feligreses con la iglesia?
• ¿Cómo construimos las estructuras de los ministerios en comisiones? Después de que se decida eso, planearemos una reunión cada 2 meses para reunir a estas comisiones. Greg preguntó si serían las cinco comisiones que se desarrollaron hace varios años.  Las comisiones enumeradas allí fueron: Adoración / Oración, Mayordomía y Compromiso, Educación Católica (Formación en la Fe), Vida Juvenil y Familiar y Justicia Social y Evangelización como se describe en los Equipos Minúsculos de Santa Mónica y Apoyo al Personal.
