Time for Prayer: Prayer & Meditation

I’m not where I need to be, but at least I’m not where I used to be.” ~Joyce Meyer

Addiction is a spiritual illness that disconnects a person from self, loved ones, and God.* SAM’s goal is to help you RE-CONNECT. A simple way to re-connect with God is with a prayer. Through prayer you can give thanks to God for where you are today in your recovery. Prayer is not about dwelling on past mistakes or regrets; it’s not about where you used to be; it’s about renewing your passion for life TODAY! So maybe you are ten years sober: give thanks! Maybe you are just beginning this journey of sobriety: give thanks! Maybe you are the mother of an addict or the sister of an alcoholic who has begun recovery: give thanks! Wherever and who ever you are on this journey of renewal: give thanks!

Be joyful always; pray continually; Give thanks in ALL circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Jesus Christ. ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

A DAILY MEDITATION FROM AA-MEETINGS.COM:

“Magic Microwave”

Why is this a process and not an event?

Where’s that microwave recovery I crave?

Break out that wand, sing a magic chant,

say the prayer so that my soul is saved.

If I read the book will it teach me the tricks

so I can fool all my loved ones once more?

Can I get one of you guys to say that I’m cured

so they’ll let back into their door?

What if I throw a few bucks in the basket

will that buy me the peace that I need?

What do you mean, “I’ve got to surrender”

if, from my misery I want to be freed?

What’s this about having to be honest,

and change my people, places and things?

Can’t I just come to a meeting, pick up a chip

and feel the joy this recovery brings?

I don’t know about all you people,

you must not have been as bad as I was.

You’re smiling and happy, you’ve got peace in your eyes,

and you talk about knowing real love.

Still, the place that I’ve been is so painful,

I don’t think I can stand any longer.

Maybe I’ll give this recovery a try,

at least til I get a bit stronger.
