Bereavement Ministry

Through our Bereavement Ministry, we seek to reach out to all those in the parish who have experienced the death of a loved one.

We also attend all visitations and funerals held at St. Monica, assisting the priest and families as needed. Together with the priest we assist the family with funeral liturgy planning.  If the family desires a Wake services or a Rosary said at the visitation, we try our best to accommodate.

We set up and clean up for each funeral liturgy.

After the funeral, we provide letters and cards of support to the bereaved for a period of one year after the death.

Additionally we sponsor a Memorial Service, held annually, which is open to all in the parish who have experienced the loss of a loved one through death.

We have a small library of books and tapes on grief and loss which are available to parishioners upon request. We provide information about grief support opportunities in the community.

For those interested in joining this ministry, training and educational materials are provided. Continuing education is provided for our ministry members as, in faith and hope, we support others in their grief.
