Small Church Communities (SCCs)
Feeling disconnected? Lost in a large church? Want to enjoy the company of other Christians and perhaps “bump into Jesus”? A Small Church Community (SCC) is a group of 8 or more individuals coming together to share life experiences, connect with others, and discover where God is present in their daily lives through listening to others, scripture and prayer. Small Church Communities make Church smaller, but more importantly, empower its members to serve the church and the surrounding communities in which we live.
Gathering in a comfortable setting, a facilitator guides the group. Usually the upcoming Sunday Scriptures are read. Each person reflects on the message and is encouraged to share how a word, phrase or idea speaks to them in a personal way. As members connect their own life and faith stories to the Scripture, they truly discover God more richly present in their lives. Some groups also read and reflect on spiritual books or the Encyclicals. Again the concepts presented help to connect faith and life.
