Greetings to all!
Today marks the first installment of what I hope will be a weekly pastor letter. I also will be making use of our website under a column marked “Pastor’s Corner”. This frees me up a little to add links to interesting websites, videos, and some pictures as they come in.
This will have already happened by the time you read this: but tonight (Thursday, May 6th) we are beginning the second phase of the St. Monica Strategic Planning process. Frank Donaldson of the Institute of School and Parish Development (ISPD) conducted 37 interviews with members of our parish. Additionally, he has reviewed a variety of documents that were submitted, having to do with budgets, previous planning initiatives, mission statements, staff job descriptions, among other things. This information has been compiled and it will be presented to our staff, our key commissions and councils (Parish, Finance, School, and Hispanic) and then to a core team of 21 people that we have chosen to help implement the process. The overall goal of course is to come up with some Gospel oriented goals that we can achieve over the next three to five years and to find a good structure that facilitates the necessary community building and communication to achieve those goals.

We are getting ready to visit our Sister parish of Santiago Apostol in Lepaterique, Honduras in June. This ministry has done a fantastic job with their portion of our site, there are some great photos, a list of needs, and a summary of the ministry available. Check it out!

Hoy se cumple la primera fase de lo que espero sea una carta pastoral semanal. También voy a hacer uso de nuestro sitio internet en una columna titulada “Esquina del Pastor”. Esto me da un poco de libertad para agregar enlaces a sitios de interés, vídeos y algunas fotos según vayan llegando.
Esto ya habrá sucedido para cuando ustedes lean esto: pero esta noche (Jueves, 06 de mayo) estamos comenzando la segunda fase del proceso de Planificación Estratégica de Santa Mónica. Frank Donaldson, del Institute of School and Parish Development (Instituto de del Desarrollo de la Parroquia y Escuela) llevó a cabo 37 entrevistas con miembros de nuestra parroquia. Además, ha revisado una serie de documentos que se le presentaron, estos tienen que ver con los presupuestos, las anteriores iniciativas de planificación, las declaraciones de la misión, las descripciones de los puestos del personal, entre otras cosas. Esta información ha sido compilada y será presentada a nuestro personal, nuestras principales comisiones y consejos (de la Parroquia, Finanzas, Escuela, e Hispana) y luego a un equipo básico de 21 personas que hemos elegido para ayudar a implementar el proceso. El objetivo general es el de llegar a algunas metas orientadas por el Evangelio que podamos lograr en los próximos tres a cinco años y para encontrar una buena estructura que facilite la edificación de la comunidad y la comunicación necesarias para alcanzar dichos objetivos.

Nos estamos preparando para visitar a nuestra parroquia hermana de Santiago Apóstol en Lepaterique, Honduras en junio. St. Monica has begun a strategic planning process. Fr. Todd discusses the reasoning, timeline and the mechanics for this undertaking in the following letter.
