Pentecost Concert: Featuring Religious Music from Around the World

May 16th, 2012 Comments off

The Pentecost Concert, presented by the Office of Multicultural Ministry and the Multicultural Ministry Commission, will take place on Sunday, May 20 at 3:00 pm at SS. Peter & Paul Cathedral in Indianapolis. This Concert gives us a way to commemorate the fact that on Pentecost the Holy Spirit brought together people from a variety of languages and cultures where they all gave glory to God. In this Concert we are able to do the same thing, but in this case in music and song.

This year the music will be provided by the following groups:

 Holy Angels Gospel Choir,

The Hispanic Choir from St. Bartholomew Parish in Columbus, IN,

The Vietnamese Apostolate Choir,

The African Catholic Ministry Choir,

The Filipino Choir,

Caribbean Steel Drumming by Michael Joseph.

The reason for the Concert being on May 20 (which is the Sunday before Pentecost) is because this year Pentecost Sunday is on the same day as the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race which makes it difficult to schedule anything on that day. The Concert is free and parking is available in the Catholic Center parking lot.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Speakers at the workshop will include experts on the struggle for justice in South and Central America.  They will address Catholic teachings on social justice and human dignity.  The film focuses on how moral and spiritual choices of one person can make a difference for many others.
The workshop is a shorter version of sessions offered this spring at Notre Dame by the same speakers who are all experts on the struggle for justice in South & Central America. This experience is suitable for people of any faith background, both adults and high school students.
Speakers will include:

  • Margaret Pfeil, Assistant Professor of Theology, University of Notre Dame
  • Rev. Robert Pelton, CSC, Professor of Theology, University of Notre Dame’s Kellogg Institute for International Concerns.  Fr. Pelton served as project coordinator and consulting theologian for the film.
  • Jacqueline Maggiore, author of Vessel of Clay, a biography of Maryknoll Sister Carla Piette who answered Monseñor Romero’s call to serve in El Salvador and died there months after Romero’s death.

Registration is $25 which includes lunch; discount fee of $20 each for groups registering together. Registration deadline is September 5, 2012. Walk-ins will be welcome as space permits. To register, call the parish office, Martha Horvath, 253-2193 x2 or mhorvath@stmonicaindy.org

“Monseñor, The Last Journey of Oscar Romero” was released in March 2012 to honor the 32nd anniversary of the 1980 assassination of Archbishop Romero. The film includes rare recordings and film from Romero’s own collection and interviews from those whose lives he changed.
